The Results Are In! – ’67 Camaro Wins OPTIMA Street Car Invitational

The OPTIMA Street Car Invitational finale is always something we look forward to hearing about after the SEMA Show each year.

As always, the 2018 iteration put each competitor and their vehicles to the test through a series of challenges – such as the Lucas Oil Road Rally, Detroit Speed Autocross, Falken Tire Road Course Time Trial, PowerStop Speed Stop Challenge and the Lingenfelter Design and Engineering Competition. Winners of each challenge receive points, and the one with the most in the end takes home the crown.

The overall winners as well as the winners of each competition were announced earlier this week:

  • Detroit Speed Autocross – Danny Popp’s 2003 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
  • PowerStop Brakes Speed Stop Challenge – Austin Barnes’ 2010 Dodge Viper
  • Falken Tire Hot Lap Challenge – Austin Barnes’ 2010 Dodge Viper
  • Lingenfelter Performance Design and Engineering Competition – Randy Johnson’s 1969 Mercury Cyclone

Austin Barnes took second place overall and Ken Thwaits came in third place in a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo. Mike Dusold, in his 1969 Chevy Camaro, took home the first place trophy and the title of the “2018 Ultimate Street Car.”

Mike said, “It feels pretty surreal to be the 2018 OUSCI winner. Five years ago when I first started competing it was my goal to someday win. It has been a challenge and has pushed me to the brink more than once, so getting here feels very good.”

The event will be on MAVTV on Friday, November 30th at 8PM eastern time. For more information on the OPTIMA Invitational and the 2019 OPTIMA Search for the Ultimate Street Car Series, check out their website HERE.
